How Overseas Pakistanis Can Get Power of Attorney (PoA) From Abroad

Step-by-Step (Only What Matters)

  1. Draft the Power of Attorney

    • Can be General or Special (property, court case, bank, etc.).

    • Must include exact CNIC/NICOP details of both parties.

    • No vague language. Courts reject weak drafts.

  2. Sign Before Pakistani Mission

    • Visit Pakistani Embassy or Consulate in your country.

    • Sign in front of the consular officer.

    • Bring:

      • Original NICOP/CNIC

      • Pakistani passport

      • Draft PoA

      • Fee (varies by country)

  3. Attestation by Embassy

    • Embassy stamps and attests the PoA.

    • Without this stamp, it’s useless in Pakistan.

  4. Send Original Document to Pakistan

    • Courier the original attested PoA to your representative.

  5. Attestation in Pakistan

    • Your representative must:

      • Get it attested from Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)

      • Register it with the relevant authority (court, registrar, land office)

Critical Mistakes People Make (Don’t Be One of Them)

  • ❌ Using WhatsApp templates copied from Facebook

  • ❌ Missing NICOP numbers or passport details

  • ❌ Not specifying powers clearly (courts hate ambiguity)

  • ❌ Forgetting MOFA attestation in Pakistan

Timeline

  • Embassy attestation: Same day or 1–3 days

  • Pakistan registration: 2–7 working days

Bottom Line

If it’s not embassy-attested, it’s trash.
If it’s poorly drafted, it will fail in court.
Do it once. Do it right.
