Punjab has introduced housing programs aimed at families who need assistance with home construction or land ownership.
Two important programs are:
- Apni Chhat Apna Ghar
- Apni Zameen Apna Ghar
Although both are related to housing, they work differently.
Apni Chhat Apna Ghar
Apni Chhat Apna Ghar is designed to help eligible low-income families build their own homes.
The Punjab government says the program aims to provide 100,000 affordable houses or apartments across Punjab through different implementation models.
Who Is Eligible?
The published eligibility criteria include:
- Applicant must be the head of the family according to NADRA records.
- Applicant must be a permanent resident of Punjab.
- Applicant must own a qualifying piece of land.
- Urban applicants can own up to 5 marla.
- Rural applicants can own up to 10 marla.
- Applicant should not have certain criminal convictions.
- Applicant should not be a loan defaulter.
- Applicant must be registered in NSER.
- Household PMT score should be 60 or less.
These conditions are based on the official program information and may be subject to verification.
What If You Do Not Own Land?
This is where Apni Zameen Apna Ghar is different.
The program is intended to provide free residential plots to eligible people who do not own a house or plot.
Apni Zameen Apna Ghar
Under the program, eligible beneficiaries can receive residential plots through designated housing schemes.
The first phase was announced for selected districts and included 3-marla residential plots.
The official program information states that applicants must:
- Be permanent residents of Punjab
- Apply for a scheme within their district
- Not own a plot or house anywhere in Pakistan
- Have a clean criminal record
- Not be a bank or financial-institution defaulter
Applications are subject to verification and the program’s allocation process.
Difference Between the Two Schemes
| Scheme | Main Purpose |
|---|---|
| Apni Chhat Apna Ghar | Assistance for eligible people who already have qualifying land |
| Apni Zameen Apna Ghar | Free residential plots for eligible people without property |
This distinction is important because owning land can affect eligibility for one program while lack of property is relevant to the other.
